Viewing dry blood specimens provides for an educational learning experience. Dry blood needs only a common high power compound light microscope for viewing. Live blood is best viewed using an optional darkfield condenser for darkfield illumination.

Darkfield microscopy consists of a high power compound microscope fitted with a darkfield condenser to illuminate the biological specimen from the sides, not from the bottom. This is different from normal transmitted illumination that sends light through the specimen. Darkfield microscopes give a black, dark viewing field. They provide an excellent method for viewing details in live blood not normally seen.

A high power microscope is best when it has two eyepieces, called a binocular compound light microscope. If the unit has only one eyepiece, then it is considered a monocular compound light microscope. Often, high power microscopes are fitted with a trinocular photography port for connecting digital and film cameras for microphotography. We carry a wide variety of microscope camera adapters. We also have USB digital microscope cameras for digital still and live video image capture on a computer via USB computer port. We carry a variety of high resolution and lower resolution digital USB video cameras as well as CCD video cameras for NTSC / PAL signal output to a CCTV monitor. This option is great for microscope demonstrations and educational use.
